Unpredictability

Unpredictability is a defining and inescapable feature of our world. While it challenges our desire to master everything, it is also a source of opportunities. In Tristan Macherel’s work, the concept of unpredictability contrasts with a technical mastery acquired through research into both material and gesture. In a creation that is intended to be profoundly minimalist and monumental, the artist explores the dichotomies of our existence. Layer by layer, his work embodies the essence, fragility and infinite diversity of the human experience, where every decision and feeling shapes and reshapes our lives. It celebrates vulnerability rather than the absolute desire for control.

He is influenced by artists such as Yun Hyong-Keun, Rothko and Pierre Soulages. His aesthetic is based on simple, resolutely cosmetic and powerful forms, which reveal poetic nuances and unexpected subtleties. In his artistic process, the artist creates unique textures that are juxtaposed in the service of graphic compositions. The painting follows its own will and imposes a letting go of the material which reveals itself and comes to life on the unprimed canvas through its absorption and the action of gravity.

Each painting is a mirror of life, a delicate dance between intention and unpredictability, inviting us to introspection.
